The Manager of Therapy Innovation and Concept Development has leadership within the Therapy R&D team for early stage innovation which includes developing a deep understanding of customer and stakeholder needs, identifying new product ideas, creating long term product roadmaps, generating and testing proof of concept prototypes for new product concepts, defining new enabling  technologies or new uses for existing technologies within the product portfolio and ultimately initiating new products into the formal New Product Development Process.

 

Major Ongoing Responsibilities:

  • Use a BioDesign approach to develop product and technology roadmaps for the Neuromodulation division.
  • Leadership of exploratory projects and initiatives to drive division growth.
  • Interact with global healthcare community and other key stakeholders to perform customer and competitive research in order to identify unmet needs and implement solutions to address opportunities.
  • Works with the Advanced Technology R&D team to identify new technologies to support future new products.
  • Identify and deliver concepts in key strategic areas and ensure tactical execution of exploratory and proof of concept in accordance with agreed upon priorities and timelines.
  • Identify, conceptualize, explore, design, develop and prototype new concepts for various medical needs across assigned strategic focus area(s). Interface with other functional areas as required to support project teams.
  • Performs IP landscaping and generates new IP.
  • Implementation and propagation across the organization of innovation and design principles.
  • Support/lead external innovation projects, as needed. Support may include, but not limited to, due diligence, project management, and intellectual property review.

 

Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Required (Engineering or related field)
  • Master’s Degree – Preferred (Engineering or related field)   
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in new product development and/or engineering with progressively increasing responsibility is required. Extensive medical device industry experience and supervisory / managerial experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Quality Function Deployment (QFD), ethnographic research, Design of Experiments (DOE), Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and analytical trouble-shooting is required.
  • Proven experience in identifying unmet needs and developing solutions or concepts preferred. BioDesign training and/or experience is preferred.
  • Proven experience in critical thinking, problem solving and the creation of new concepts / Intellectual Property (IP)
  • Project leadership experience is preferred.
  • Technical writing/reporting skills is required.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for FDA regulated environment.
  • Solicits the cooperation of a diverse group of disciplines and functions in a tactful and persuasive manner.
