Funded postdoc in developmental neurobiology, U Mass-Amherst

The Pallas lab will be moving from Georgia State University to the University of Massachusetts- Amherst in summer 2019. We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc who is well-trained in electrophysiological approaches to understanding development and plasticity of mammalian visual function. Our interests include: the roles of patterning genes and neural activity in directing the construction of the synaptic connectivity responsible for visual perception; the mechanisms that allow recovery of visual function following injury or sensory deprivation; the regulation of critical periods of synaptic plasticity; and the evolution of developmental mechanisms. Our approaches include in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology, pharmacological manipulation of neural activity, imaging of neurons and neural pathways, gene and protein expression assays, manipulation of gene expression using viral vectors, use of transgenic and knockout mice, and behavioral assays of perception. The successful candidate will receive strong mentoring by a supportive PI.
