28 Jun Electrical Systems Engineer
JOB SUMMARY:
Kernel is building next generation, non-invasive, mind/body/machine interfaces (MBMIs). Our team of 47, including 28 PhDs, is working on the frontier, pioneering in multiple fields. The technology we’re building will improve how we address mental disease and dysfunction and usher in a new era of exploring, improving and evolving our cognition.
We are building a team of electrical engineers to bring our revolutionary sensor design to a system level, ready for commercial use. The team will design, build and test the circuitry, systems and algorithms that will control a state-of-the-art non-invasive measurement system. The Electrical Systems Engineer will develop control algorithms, sensor and driver multiplexing schemes and perform noise analysis on the entire system.
Neuroscience is the new rocket science. We’re looking for those who can see it now, without the social proof that will follow in the years to come.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
-
- Develop mission-critical electrical systems and control algorithms (system level) for advanced R&D and product development
- Work independently when necessary to meet tight deadlines
- Operate effectively within a tight-knit interdisciplinary team consisting of physicists, data scientists, neuroscientist and engineers to achieve the (nearly) impossible
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
-
- Minimum four years of work experience outside college for bachelor’s degree, two years for Masters
- Experience in control design and closed loop systems with feedback
- Experience designing high channel count electrical systems, with many input and many outputs
- Experience designing systems with PID controllers
- Ability to analyze control loop bandwidth, disturbance correction and noise transfer
- Understanding of lock-in amplifiers
- Proficiency with system modeling tools like MATLAB and Simulink
- Demonstrated experience high-performance consumer, aerospace, robotics, military or medical system design
PREFERRED SKILLS:
-
- Seven years of industry work experience
- Understanding of electronic noise, quantization noise and correlated noise
- Deep understanding of analog and digital signal processing techniques
- Experience with Kalman filters
- Understanding of ADC and DAC performance specifications such as ENOB, SNR, INL and DNL
- Experience with high performance analog systems including: phased array radar, ultrasound beam forming, MRI multi-transmit systems
