Post-Doctoral Fellowship Position is available at the Neurobiology of Sleep and Sleep-disordered Breathing Laboratory, VA West Los Angeles Medical Center/UCLA, Los Angeles, CA. Our laboratory is active in research that investigates the effect of chronic intermittent hypoxia and aging on neuronal control of upper airway muscle activity during sleep and wakefulness.

We seek enthusiastic, highly motivated, and talented scientist to join our multi-disciplinary team. The applicant will hold a PhD or equivalent degree in neuroscience, neurobiology, neuroanatomy, or a related field and has a keen interest in the fields of sleep, sleep-disordered breathing and aging science. Our research uses electrophysiological, neurophysiological, chemogenetic, and neuroanatomical approaches.

The selected candidate will work under the mentorship of two principal investigators, Drs. Victor B. Fenik and Irma Rukhadze on one or more projects involving the effect of chronic intermittent hypoxia on neural pathways involved in obstructive sleep apnea pathogenesis, age-related changes in control of upper airway muscles during behavioral states, and will develop her/his independent line of research.

The successful applicant will be expected to complete all aspects of the project (data collection and analysis, data presentation, preparation of manuscripts for publication), and develop new research initiatives.

Qualifications

The applicant should have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, writing and oral communication skills, highly motivated, self-starter and independent, as well as team player, expertise in the fields of sleep and/or aging research is preferred.

Salary and benefits will be commensurate with the NIH guidelines. This postdoctoral fellow is full time and expected to last one year, renewable upon mutual agreement, for 3 years. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
