About This Position

The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s Department of Anesthesiology has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate in the laboratories of Roy Clifford Levitt, MD. This position participates in interdisciplinary chronic pain research focused on defining the mechanisms related to the development and maintenance of chronic pain using advanced animal models including genetically modified animals. The program is poised to develop novel diagnostics, preventative and therapeutic strategies to transform the care of patients with chronic pain. The work involves competency with genetics, electrophysiology (patch-clamp), molecular biology and animal pain models. The Postdoctoral Associate measures changes in candidate gene expression and functions, qPCR, calcium imaging, western blot IHC and pain behavior testing for candidate genes and pathways. This mentored position functions more independently and contributes to experimental design and planning. Also contributes towards scientific publications, presentations and grant submissions.

Minimum Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Ph.D. or M.D. in Neuroscience related fields of study. Two years of work experience in pain research is highly desirable. Familiarity with animal surgery and pain behavior tests are highly desirable. Ability to teach and mentor students in the laboratory is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to successfully and professionally interact with other team members are required.
