Job Description
The Neurocognitive Disorders, Pain, and New Indications (NPN) Research Unit at Biogen is seeking a Research Fellow with a strong research background to join our team in advancing neuroscience research in support of new therapeutic approaches. This position would be especially suited to a PhD or Post-Doc who is considering a transition to industry, and who would like to increase familiarity with drug discovery and other aspects of working in industry, while making significant impact with their research expertise.
This position would involve a primary research project with a 12-month timeline (extension possible), as well as support of ongoing projects in a team environment. Projects include investigation of fundamental biology or mechanism of action studies related to therapeutic targets or drug candidates, and may also include development or implementation of new technical approaches. The position provides an opportunity to perform exciting, focused research that can accelerate aspects of biology or technology for the OPN Research team. It also provides close-up exposure to numerous aspects of working in a leading biotech company: the drug discovery and development process, cross-functional project teams, application of different therapeutic modalities (small molecules, antibodies, antisense oligonucleotides, etc.). Areas of research include one or more of the following: pain, neuroinflammation, neurodevelopmental disorder/s, and neurodegeneration. Technical expertise that would be valuable includes behavioral models, ex vivo cultures and assays, advanced fluorescence microscopy, gene delivery techniques, or electrophysiology.
Qualifications
Qualified applicants will have a strong background in research with enthusiasm for applying this to drug discovery efforts. They will have a demonstrated record of scientific rigor, productivity, and adaptability. Experience in one of the unit’s active research areas (broadly, pain, neurodevelopment, neuropsychiatry, neurodegeneration) is a plus.
-
- Ability to contribute intellectually to scientific discourse within the group while advancing one’s own research project.
- Demonstrated ability to independently conduct research projects and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Experience in pain, neuropsychiatry, neurodevelopment, rare disease or neurodegeneration research desirable.
- Eagerness and flexibility to learn and take on new areas of research and drug discovery are highly valued.
Education
-
- PhD in the biological/biomedical sciences with demonstrated record of independent research.
