• • Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in hand by December 31, 2019. Experience with behavioral training, either calcium imaging or electrophysiology in alert rodents, and data analysis.

Brief Description of Duties:

The group of Alfredo Fontanini in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior at Stony Brook University is looking to hire a postdoctoral fellow to study plasticity of cortical representations in the gustatory cortex of behaving rodents. The project will rely on an array of techniques: behavioral training, multielectrodes and calcium imaging in behaving mice, viral approaches, otpo/chemo/pharmacological manipulations, analytical and computational methods. The lab has a long standing interest in studying the gustatory insular cortex and its role in taste, odor-taste integration, expectation and motivated behaviors. In addition, we have very active collaborations with computational neuroscientists, statisticians, and with circuit/synaptic physiologists. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with any of the aforementioned groups and other groups in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior at Stony Brook University. The Department and the School offer a vibrant and energetic neuroscience environment with outstanding scientific resources, a collaborative culture and a strong focus on postdoc mentoring. The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the department of Neurobiology & Behavior. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. Research will be in the field of systems, behavioral and circuit neuroscience, executing and analyzing experiments aimed at investigating how sensory context, expectation of incoming sensory stimuli and learning modulate activity in sensory and limbic areas.

• • Animal care and training.
  • Electrophysiological recordings, imaging experiments, surgeries, anatomy, behavioral experiments and data analysis.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing and grant writing.
  • Lab maintenance including equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.
