The Opportunity

Cala Health is seeking a Data Engineer to be a part of a fast-moving team. This role will report to the Neuroscience Director.

In this role, the Data Engineer will be responsible for expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for crossfunctional teams and external partners.

The ideal candidate is an experienced data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems and building them from the ground up. The Data Engineer will support and collaborate with data scientists, commercial stakeholders, database users, data analysts, and product team on data initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. The Data Engineer must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

    • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture and application.
    • Work closely with Data Scientists and cloud architecture team to maintain data pipeline.
    • Ingest, process, and analyze large, complex data sets that meet functional business requirements.
    • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, parallelization, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
    • Integrate and process data from multiple data sources
    • Develop data solutions/applications using NoSQL, SQL, and tools such as DashDB, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.

 

Desired Skills and Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other related fields
    • 2+ years of experience in Data Warehousing, ETL development, and high dimensional data modeling
    • 2+ years of experience of Programming experience in Python Anaconda and R (preferred), knowledge of Java and/or Javascript is bonus
    • Experience with non-relational databases (NoSQL) is required
    • 2+ years of experience in working with relational databases, including writing SQL and NoSQL statements to read, analyze, and write data
    • Experience with AWS and working knowledge of AWS data management,
    • DevOps processes, and technologies (Jenkins, BitBucket, Testing framework)
    • Prior experience with distributed analytic processing technologies (Spark/PySpark)
    • Knowledge of Frameworks: Flask and/or Django
    • Experience with – Data Viz: Tableau preferred
    • Familiarity with agile/scrum methodology a plus
    • Superb verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent organizational skills along with strong attention to detail
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with small, cross-functional teams
