PostDoc Scientist – Pathogenesis of Cognitive Impairment

Dr. Warren Tourtellotte’s laboratory studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms of central and peripheral nervous system development, and mechanisms involved in innervation homeostasis and neurodegeneration. We are seeking two (2) Postdoctoral Scientists who will also need to meet all requirements in applying for an NIH post-doctoral fellowship.

Our first Postdoc will work with Dr. Tourtellotte’s lab to study pathogenesis of cognitive impairment in Alzheimer’s Disease (Ou-Yang et al., Sci. Transl. Med., 10, 459) and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Qiu et al., J. Clin. Invest., 124, 981). The lab also has an interest in transcriptional regulation of genes involved in learning and memory (Li et al., Mol. Cell. Neurosci, 35, 76; O’Donovan et al., Trends Neursoci., 22, 167). In this role, you will study the role of microglial function in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease and brain B-amyloid proteostasis.

Our second Postdoc will study the role of growth factor and transcription factor signaling in peripheral nervous system target tissue innervation and innervation homeostasis (Tourtellotte, Am. J. Pathology, 186: 489; Oliviera Fernandes et al., J. Neurosci., 35: 5566; Jackson et al., Devel., 141: 2452). In this role, you will study the role of growth factor signaling in peripheral autonomic neuropathy.

In both roles, your essential job duties and responsibilities will be as follows:

    • Working independently on research projects under the supervision of the principal investigator (mentor).
    • Design and conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, troubleshoot experiments, analyze data for publication and grant applications.
    • Present research at national and international meetings and prepare manuscripts for publication.
    • Teaching other research staff, students, and residents may be required.

Educational Requirements

    • Must hold a Doctoral Degree (preferably with expertise in neuroscience, neurobiology, molecular biology, neurodegenerative disease research or neuropathology) and have a passion for translational research using animal models to study molecular mechanisms in animal models of neurodegenerative disease.
    • Translational research using animal models to study peripheral nervous system development and target tissue innervation homeostasis.

Experience

Experience in molecular biology, working with transgenic mice, cell culture, histological analysis, immunocytochemistry and imaging techniques is preferred.
Experience working with pluripotent stem cells and proteomic analysis of isolated protein complexes especially of benefit.

Should you feel you meet the requirements of the either positions, please take a moment and apply directly on our website at www.cedars-sinai.org

CV’s and Cover Letters may also be e-mailed directly to:
