Systems Engineer

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Kernel is building next generation, non-invasive, mind/body/machine interfaces (MBMIs). Our team of neuroscientists, engineers, and physicists are working on the frontier, pioneering in multiple fields. The technology we’re building will improve how we address mental disease and dysfunction and usher in a new era of exploring, improving and evolving our cognition.

We’re looking for an experienced Systems Engineer leader to have immediate impact on provisioning, configuring, and maintaining our application servers, workstations, and devices using centralized management and focusing on efficient networking and security. Your expertise and strategic direction will unlock efficiencies and allow us to focus on the next wave of human-centric technology.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Plans and implements the systems infrastructure for new hardware and software
    • Monitors and improves the security and stability for existing infrastructure
    • Develops and executes on policies and procedures around security, access controls, on-boarding, and vendor management
    • Troubleshoots and resolves complex hardware, software and network technical problems
    • Works without direct supervision and makes technical decisions

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    • B.S., Engineering (or equivalent experience, certification, or education)
    • Five years of industry work experience with on-premise infrastructure
    • Ability to administer Linux systems to maintain and secure the operating system as well as install and configure software packages
    • Utilized centralized management across a fleet of Macs, PCs, and other devices
    • Has worked with an SSO Identity Provider and used certificate based authentication

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

    • Direct work with Cisco networking devices and setting up VLANs, VPNs, and Wi-Fi while maintaining security at all levels
    • Comfortable in AWS or another similar cloud provider
    • Prior experience with fleet management software such as JAMF, Okta, Centrify, Jumpcloud
    • Proficiency with on-premise Atlassian suite administration (Jira, Confluence, BitBucket)
    • Knowledge of basic shell or Python scripting for automation
