Job summary

We are seeking for appoint up to four electronic and/or biomedical engineering researchers to develop, test, and deploy biosensor technology for the care of people living with dementia. The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is a joint £290 million investment from the Medical Research Council (MRC), Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK. The DRI Care Research & Technology Centre has recently been awarded to Imperial College London. Uniquely, two of the seven DRI Centres are now based at Imperial. The DRI was established in response to the Government’s 2020 Challenge on Dementia. Its mission is to find new ways to diagnose, treat, prevent and care for people living with dementia. The UK DRI combines world-leading expertise across the spectrum of dementia research. The new Care Research & Technology Centre will initially at the Hammersmith campus before moving to the College’s new White City Campus in 2020. This exciting £500 million investment brings together medicine, engineering and industry, providing an ideal environment for innovative clinical research and technology development. The Centre supports cross-Faculty collaborative efforts and is a partnership between Imperial and the University of Surrey. It provides a vibrant environment for innovative research and the opportunity to develop novel multi-disciplinary research.

 

Duties and responsibilities

The group is aiming to recruit up to four full-time members of research staff based at Imperial College. The postholders will conduct research as part of the UK DRI’s Care Research & Technology Centre on novel biosensor technology including ultra-wearables (e.g. in-ear “hearable” devices) and non-contact biosensors (e.g. coherent ultrawideband radar). They will join a highly dedicated team responsible for the development, test, and delivery of novel devices, for integration and deployment in a “healthy home” environment.

 

Essential requirements

A strong research track record in at least one of the following contributing areas of expertise:-Electromagnetic simulation and antenna design-Low power circuit design-Embedded systems-Signal processing- Machine learning · Practical experience within a research environment and/or publication in relevant and refereed journals or conferences. · Computer literate with a good knowledge of different computer programs with experience in simulation and data management

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £34,397 – £37,486 per annum.
