Postdoctoral Scholar Position
UC San Diego Center for Next Generation Brain Machine Interfaces
The Center for Next Generation Brain Machine Interfaces, a joint effort across the UCSD School of Medicine and the UCSD Jacobs School of Engineering, has the goal of developing novel devices, surgical techniques, and applications of brain machine interface technology. The Center is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to develop and conduct experiments in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) with an emphasis on isolating control and reinforcement signals for interaction with closed-loop controllers, semi-autonomous systems, and robotics.
The postdoctoral scholar will work with the diverse Center director team: James Brewer, MD, PhD (Neurosciences; Radiology); Anders Dale, PhD (Neurosciences; Radiology); and Alexander Norbash, MD (Radiology), and Vikash Gilja, PhD (Electrical & Computer Engineering); and Alexander Khalessi, MD (Neurosurgery), as well as the director of the UCSD Epilepsy Center, Jerry Shih, MD (Neurosciences), and the director of the Advanced Robotics and Controls Laboratory, Michael Yip (Electrical & Computer Engineering).
Required Qualifications:

- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Bioengineering, Neuroscience or a related field
- Experience conducting systems neuroscience / cognitive neuroscience studies with human subjects or in animal model
- Experience applying signal processing and machine learning techniques
- Ability to program in Python and/or Matlab
- Publication track record
Preferred Qualifications:

- Prior work applying machine learning to neural signals
- Experience with deep learning, reinforcement learning, active learning techniques, and/or robotics
- Ability to program in C/C++
- Experience with real-time systems
- Research experience in a clinical setting
