
02 Feb Postdoc – Neural and Environmental Rhythms
The Max-Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt, Germany, investigates the attentional, cognitive, and affective mechanisms of aesthetic perception and evaluation.
The Institute currently offers a Postdoc position (m/f/d) in the Max Planck Research Group “Neural and Environmental Rhythms” (PI: Molly J. Henry).
This position is part of a research project funded by the European Research Council (BRAINSYNC).
The postdoc will develop and oversee MEG projects seeking to understand how our experience of the auditory world (speech, music, etc.) arises from the interaction between neural rhythms and the rhythms of sounds. The position will afford the opportunity to learn new methods, including psychophysics, mathematical modeling, and noninvasive brain stimulation.
The successful applicant holds a PhD in a relevant discipline, e.g., psychology, hearing science, neuroscience, physiology, engineering, computer science, etc., and possesses the following skills and experience:
- Substantial knowledge regarding statistics/experimental methods
- Excellent quantitative and computer skills (e.g., programming in Matlab or Python)
- Critical thinking and eagerness to learn new techniques, tools and methods
- Excellent spoken and written English and scientific communication skills
- MEG expertise is mandatory
The position is for a period of two years (with extension possible). The anticipated starting date is as early as April 2020. Salaries are determined following the salary scale E 13 (German TVÖD/Bund)*; substantial social benefits come on top of the salary.
