Junior Software Developer – Neural Engineering

About the role:

We are looking for a graduate or early career developer with experience in C++ to work on exciting projects for neural engineering applications.

 

Main duties and responsibilities:

You would work within our multidisciplinary team, developing, implementing and testing embedded applications processing neural signals with machine learning algorithms to control a prosthetic arm from R&D concept to a product for safe and effective clinical use.

 

Tasks will include:

  • Implement production level code for complex medical systems
  • Work on various embedded services including:
    • Sensor data collection
    • Complex data processing
    • Machine learning algorithms
    • Interfacing with cloud-based services
  • Collaborate with Machine Learning Researchers to implement, evaluate and optimise new algorithms
  • Test, debug, optimise and maintain programs
  • Supporting pre-clinical and clinical deployments of production system

 

Requirements

Essential skills and qualifications:

  • Programming experience in C++ 11 and STL with a desire to learn new programming languages
  • Demonstrable ability in researching, designing and writing new software programs
  • Have a logical, analytical and creative approach to problems and determining their solution
  • Ability to test, debug and maintain programs
  • Knowledge of two or more from the following: embedded development, cloud services development,
  • distributed/parallel computing systems, data visualisation, information retrieval and/or networking
  • A good understanding and aptitude for maths
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical subject, or equivalent qualification or technical experience

Desired skills and qualifications:

  • Python and/or C# programming experience
  • Experience with software development for embedded devices
  • Experience with software development in a regulated industry (such as medical, nuclear or defense)
  • Working knowledge of source control management such as Git
  • Experience with issue management systems such as GitLab or JIRA
  • Experience of working with Agile software development methodologies
  • Familiarity with Linux & AWS
  • Familiarity with QT framework and QML
