01 Mar PhD – Sub-area of Vision Science
Postdoctoral Position in Translational Vision Science at UMN
A postdoctoral position is available to develop and test novel assistive technology for people with age-related macular degeneration. The NIH-funded project at The University of Minnesota is a collaboration between the labs of Drs Stephen Engel (engellab.psych.umn.edu) and Gordon Legge (gellab.psych.umn.edu), and The Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences. The technology uses eye-tracking to manipulate text in real time to improve reading. The research includes both basic science and translational components, aiming to improve the technology and understand the limits of reading performance.
Requirements include skill in programming vision experiments; experience with eye tracking, virtual reality, and/or testing of reading is a plus. The initial appointment would be for 1 year, with renewal opportunities
for several additional years. Start date is summer to early fall of 2020, negotiable. Salary is at NIH rates.
The position also provides opportunity to develop additional collaborations with the large and highly collaborative Vision Science community at The University of Minnesota. Vision research spans the departments of Psychology, Ophthalmology, Neurobiology, and The Center for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, as well as the interdisciplinary Center for Applied and Translational Sensory Sciences (http://catss.umn.edu), which will house the project.
