Mechanical Engineer II

POSITION SUMMARY:
Researches, plans, designs and documents parts and assemblies relating to externals hardware. Coordinates and performs activities involved in documentation, fabrication and testing of such parts and assemblies. Applies advanced theoretical analysis to the design and failure analysis of product.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop product concepts from existing requirements. Maintain/revise design specifications.
- Design, fabricate and evaluate prototypes using internal resources or external vendors.
- Maintain and revise fabrication and inspection processes. Document procedures according to Second Sight standards.
- Apply knowledge of materials commonly used in medical electronics devices, including metals, polymers and composites.
- Interact with vendors for design, troubleshooting, and yield improvement.
- Develop test methods, procedures and apparatuses. Perform inspection and failure analysis. Document results with test protocols and reports.
- Plan and conduct experiments. Collect, organize and interpret data from various sources. Disseminate data to guide development efforts. Plan and perform rigorous experiments.
- Contribute actively on small development teams. Plan, execute and document tasks according to priority and schedule. Report progress to team leader and management.
- Train operators and engineers. Support manufacturing personnel.
- Know, understand and follow quality system SOPs, particularly Design Control.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
BS degree in mechanical engineering or relevant field from an accredited college or university.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
At least 2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
- Working knowledge of 3-D modeling software such as SolidWorks and design software such as AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of fabrication and rapid prototyping processes.
- Regulated industry experience beneficial.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Able to initiate and complete assignments independently.
