Senior Staff Scientist, Computational Neuroscientist – Experience Analytics
Science – Technology Strategy, San Francisco
Advanced Technology Group
Dolby Laboratories is looking for a self-motivated, talented individual interested in applying their theoretical and practical expertise in computational neural and psychophysical modeling of human experience to build novel models and analytics of audio and visual creative media. You will contribute directly to development efforts of products and developer APIs working closely with scientists, engineering developers, cross-company research teams, and product owners. Expertise in predictive statistical and machine learning models of perceptual experience and optimization is required, and the role will have a significant opportunity for creative insight and development. You will be developing new product offerings that provide enhanced insight into the human sensory experience of creative media. You will also have direct access to a large human data-collection team utilizing our several biophysics labs, as well as our partners in the music, movies, and gaming industries providing real-world customer data to inform and evolve their efforts.
This position involves theoretical and data-driven computational development of innovative technologies. Computational development will be guided by neural or psychophysical behavioral data with emphasis on perceived features of speech, music, and images, by sensory systems and their integration. Understanding sentiment, and more broadly developed novel qualifiers of human experience are key business goals. The position is in the Science Group within the Advanced Technology Group of Dolby Laboratories. It will involve work in close collaboration with other scientists/technology developers/researchers in multiple global locations.
You should have expert skills working with novel data sets of various background origins and strong working knowledge of current machine learning methods applied to computational models of perception and human experience. Ideal candidates have expertise in the application of probabilistic statistical modeling, machine learning, and multiple neural network architectures with a broad understanding of methodological approaches and proficiency in practice. An applied understanding of optimization and dynamical systems is highly desired. You will be working closely with a product-focused API research team having short timelines to deployment of novel innovations. In this way, the individual should desire and work toward having a practical and conceptual knowledge of the pipelines and workflows associated with delivery of APIs to various developer communities.
Requirements: Candidates must have these skills or background:
- A PhD in Computer Science, Computational Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field with ideally 5 years of experience, or a Masters Degree or equivalent with at least 7-10 years of experience.
- Expertise and innovation in methods, theory, and application of probabilistic statistical modeling, machine learning, and neural network architectures with a broad understanding of methodological approaches and proficiency in practice.
- High proficiency in Python
- Proficient in Matlab
- Experience with C, and C++
- Strong expertise and knowledge of computational and probabilistic models of sensory perception
- Experience with speech, audio, or video processing technologies
- Applied understanding of methods of optimization and dynamical systems
Expert abilities to work with new data sets regardless of prior exposure
