Neuromodulation Engineer

Description

We are looking for an electronic or biomedical engineer with experience in developing implantable technology to join our team. You will help create innovative neuromodulation devices, both to record neural activity and to deliver therapies to the nervous system. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your skills to challenging real-world applications in a fast-paced, collaborative and autonomous environment. We work with the world’s most ambitious companies to address diverse, deep technology problems that enable advanced products which make a difference to people’s lives.

This is primarily a technical role and you should expect to spend most of your time developing implantable electronics components such as custom neurostimulation lead geometries, testing prototypes in our on-site labs, and communicating continuously with colleagues and clients. We believe that diverse teams deliver the best results and there will be plenty of opportunity to interact with and learn from experienced colleagues across a wide range of disciplines.

The products we develop are often world firsts, necessitating a first-principles approach to the electronics design and development. You will need to use your knowledge of the underlying principles to understand the relevant constraints and trade-offs for each application. By carrying out detailed investigation, such as analytical calculations and finite-element analysis, you will arrive at pragmatic solutions to each challenge whilst considering how your design decisions will affect other elements of the system.

As with all consultant positions, we hope that your role will evolve over time to include team leadership and commercial insight. With support from your colleagues you will grow strong, collaborative relationships with existing and prospective clients, understanding their technical needs
along with their wider strategy and vision. You will help build development plans that they can buy into and earn their trust through the successes and challenges that demanding technology projects bring. With experience, your combination of increasing technology and market insight will enable you to uncover valuable new commercial opportunities and perhaps even whole new areas of business for TTP.

Requirements

The essential requirements for this role are:

  • Experience in implantable technology development. You have contributed to the design of an implantable electronic device, either in industry or during a PhD/Postdoc. Experience in implantable neuromodulation is an advantage.
  • Academic excellence. A first or 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in biomedical engineering, electronic engineering, physics or a related discipline from a world-class university. A Masters and/or PhD would be advantageous.
  • A hands-on attitude. You enjoy making what you design or taking your theories into the lab and putting them to the test.
  • Leadership potential. You take on new responsibilities, seek challenging objectives, and go about them with tenacity and pragmatism.
  • Insatiable curiosity. Whether it’s new technology or how a business makes its money, you dig deep to generate valuable insight.
  • Communication skills. You enjoy collaboration and like to present your work to others, showing why it matters to them.

Benefits

  • Employer pension contribution of 12% (+3% personal contribution)
  • Profit related bonus
  • Enhanced share purchase scheme
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Life insurance
  • 25 days’ annual holiday plus bank holidays
  • Discounts and memberships to local sports facilities and the theatre
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • A comprehensive relocation package is also available, if applicable.
