Description

The U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM) is an internationally recognized research center of excellence for Warfighter performance science and its useful applications. For over 50 years, the Institute functions as a world-class laboratory for environmental medicine, physiology, health, performance, and nutrition research. Research studies are conducted by scientists from four research divisions, working in concert with one another and collaborating with other world-class scientists from government, industry, and academia. Research divisions are: Biophysics & Biomedical Modeling (BBMD), Military Nutrition (MND), Military Performance (MPD), Thermal & Mountain Medicine (TMMD).

During your appointment, you will collaborate with a team of neuroscientists, psychologists, physiologists, biomechanists, epidemiologists, statisticians, and Army personnel to understand the structural and functional underpinnings of diverse neuromodulation approaches and their relationship to human health and performance outcomes. Under the guidance of principal investigators (PIs), you will learn to develop and execute human subjects research protocols, including data collection, data management, analysis of study data, and reporting of research findings. Also, you will participate with the PIs to recruit research volunteers and collaborate with outside researchers. Throughout your appointment, you will also have the opportunity to participate in human subjects research studies that will investigate the effects of military occupational and environmental exposures on physical, cognitive, and psychological function and performance in laboratory and field-based studies. This learning opportunity will allow you to increase your knowledge of research design, execution, data management, analysis, and disseminate research findings through both verbal and written methods.
