Sr. Mechanical Engineer

Job Description:
As a member of Implant R&D team the engineer will be a key player in the design and development implants for giving sight to the blind, as well as for fixtures and hardware for manufacturing of the same. We are looking for someone with experience working on a development team to iterate novel implant designs based on pre-clinical and clinical trials. Preferably medium-sized company experience with a mature product development system and a medium volume product (1000’s per year). DBS or cochlear implant product realization experience would be very beneficial.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design and develop implant components for chronically implantable medical devices.
- Design and develop fixtures and hardware for the manufacture and testing of implants.
- Conduct brainstorming sessions and design reviews, build prototypes, release designs under design control and document control.
- Develop, document and validate new processes for various manufacturing operations relating to new implant designs.
- Manage projects, perform project design and status review presentations for technical area of responsibility.
Skills/Experience:
- BS or MS degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field
- Extensive experience with solid modeling CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
- Experience in the design of molds for silicone or plastic parts.
- Experience with design control.
- Experience with verification and validation testing and its documentation.
- Motivated, highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks at one time.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to function in team environment.
- Experience in the medical device industry. Experience in another regulated industry may substitute depending on the candidate’s strengths.
Minimum work experience required/preferred:
- A bachelor’s degree plus seven years of medical device design experience, or a master’s degree plus five years of medical device design experience.
Minimum education and training required/preferred:
- MS or BS degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field.
