The Neuro-Endovascular Research Division within the Department of Neurology, Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami, Miami, FL, is seeking to hire a Post-doctoral Associate Research Fellow. The lab’s primary research focus is to develop therapies, including but not limited to stem cell therapy, for Neuro-Endovascular diseases like stroke and dementia. The Post-doctoral Research Fellow will work on independent projects that align with the goals of the laboratory, under the guidance of PI/Research Faculty. This is a full-time position which will involve working in close collaboration with the PI/Research Faculty for projects that focus on developing therapies for stroke and vascular cognitive impairment. The post-doctoral fellow will be trained in a holistic manner by the faculty, to succeed as an independent scientist as well as help train the fellow to define and achieve his/her career goals.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform and develop individual research projects on stroke and vascular cognitive impairment
- Perform rodent and canine stroke endovascular surgeries (reversible middle cerebral artery occlusion model)
- Work with and deliver stem cells
- Perform molecular neurobiology experiments on rodent, canine as well as human tissue
- Perform in-vitro cell culture experiments
- Be constantly willing to learn new scientific techniques and ideas
- Demonstrate excellent troubleshooting skills
- Fellow will be mentored and encouraged to write and pursue post-doctoral research fellowships
- Must be able to develop independent research projects, research design, execute experiments, record research findings, analyze data, interpret
- results and present them well (analytical and critical thinking is important)
- Write manuscripts and publish in peer-reviewed journals
- Attend and present at regional, national and international meetings
Qualifications:
- PhD required in Neuroscience/Physiology/other related Biomedical field or MD/MD-PhD with relevant Biomedical background
- Preferred: 0-2 years of post-doctoral experience
- Preferred: Experience working in a stroke or dementia lab, doing stroke surgeries (MCAO model), other vascular surgeries, molecular biology experiments (western blotting, RT-PCR, RNA-DNA isolation, immunofluorescence, histology, etc.), is preferred
- Preferred: Candidates with expertise in MCAO and other vascular large and small animal surgeries are encouraged to apply
- Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
