The Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) team at Facebook Reality Labs is developing a noninvasive, wearable, optical BCI for human-computer interactions. This internship will embed an ethics trainee into a team of BCI engineers and research scientists who are committed to and proactively engaged in responsible innovation. During this internship, you will have the opportunity to both learn about and participate in BCI research and development while working on related neuroethics projects. A scientific background is not required in order to be successful in this role.
Our internships are sixteen (16) to twenty four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Research Intern, BCI Bioethicist (PhD) Responsibilities
- Learn about BCI team research and development
- Participate in scientific discussions and (optional) experiments
- Review relevant neuroethics literature, plan journal club topics
- Drive neuroethics projects in collaboration with team members
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in the field of Bioethics, Neuroethics, Philosophy, or a related field
- Experience or completed coursework related to human research protection
- Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
- Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Preferred Qualifications
- Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op
- Interest in learning new concepts at a high-level, particularly related to neuroscience, optics, and experiment design
- Familiarity with neuroethics literature
- Publication record in bioethics or neuroethics
