Position Summary:
Pear’s Product Development team, located in Boston and SF, is passionate about crafting engaging products that positively impact patient lives. As a Director of Product Design, you’ll collaborate extensively across Clinical, Commercial, Engineering, Portfolio, and Product teams to bring the patient voice and design thinking to our strategy and business goals. We’re a close-knit, inquisitive group, constantly leveraging research and data and optimizing the process of designing software in a regulated medical device space.
The ideal candidate thinks about the big picture and is passionate about people. Curious by nature, you enjoy solving problems, care deeply about details, and have a high emotional intelligence. Your excellent communication skills pale only in comparison to your leadership and strategic skills.
This position is remote! We have offices in Boston, San Francisco and Raleigh and would welcome people that are in and around those geographical areas.
Responsibilities:
- Define the strategy for the Product Design and User Research teams in line with business goals
- Facilitate design discussions with a wide variety of stakeholders, identify signals in the noise, and inform how design contributes to patient and provider success
- Partner cross-functionally to help the Product Design and User Research teams turn ideas and hypotheses into appealing, safe, and clinically efficacious products
- Grow and nurture the talent of the Product Design and User Research teams
- Lead continuous improvement of design and research processes to enable delivery of the best solutions for patients and providers, while keeping business goals, constraints and timely delivery top of mind
Minimum Requirements:
- A degree in interaction/experience/visual design, HCI, related field or equivalent experience
- 10+ years’ experience designing web and mobile applications
- 2+ years managing designers / leading design teams
- A portfolio showcasing your work or the work of a team you’ve led, demonstrating an end-to-end process from user research to concept development and delivery
- A solid understanding of user research methodologies and best practices
- Demonstrated excellence in designing and enhancing new-to-the-world products
- Proven ability to collaborate with diverse teams and track multiple streams of information in a dynamic, technical, rapid changing environment
Skills
- People management, specifically coaching, mentorship, sponsorship, performance management and career development
- Demonstrated strategic design thinking and tying the value of UX to business objectives
- Experience working cross-functionally to increase understanding, remove barriers and make communication more seamless
- Evolve, elevate and communicate user-centered design within the organization
- A knack for distilling complex information into potential solutions and presenting to stakeholders in an easy-to-understand manner
- Ability to come up to speed quickly on new domains
