Technical Manager – Develop and Maintain Experimental Equipment and Procedures

 

TECHNICAL MANAGER

 

BRAINCoGS is a collaborative scientific research project, spanning 7 neuroscience research labs across Princeton University and UC Davis. These labs are working together to study how multiple brain regions work together to make a decision. This ambitious project involves recording from thousands of neurons in the working brain, using advanced imaging and electrophysiology methods, and building mathematical models of the resulting data. We are seeking a Technical Manager to work closely with our contributing labs to develop and maintain experimental equipment and procedures across the collaboration, including virtual reality behavioral setups for small animal experiments.

This is a 1 year term position with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued funding.

 

Responsibilities

  • Building and maintaining experimental setups for behavioral testing and neural recordings and perturbations;
  • Establishing procedures for standardizing, monitoring and troubleshooting experimental setups, including animal subjects, surgical procedures, apparatus, etc;
  • Managing technicians who train animals on the experimental set-ups; and
  • Coordinating with the data management team to ensure reliable and efficient sharing and pooling of data from the experimental set-ups across different labs.

 

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate would have a masters or PhD in science or engineering, and strong technical and experimental skills.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Prior experience in laboratory or project management is desirable but not essential.
