Lead Analog/Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuit and System Engineer

iota Biosciences is a well-funded medical device startup dedicated to bringing novel bioeletronic devices to market. I. Bioelectronic devices are the start of a an entirely new form of medicine, where miniature devices treat chronic diseases through mechanisms like electrical stimulation or targeted chemical release, or collect disease diagnostics at a specificity or frequency not previously possible.

Iota’s core technology stack enables a custom ultrasound wand to communicate with and power custom implantable devices, eliminating the need for wires or batteries and making it possible to produce tiny medical implants. This product concept is based on the ground-breaking “neural dust” technology initially developed at UC Berkeley. From this academic proof of concept, iota Biosciences is developing a family of miniscule yet effective and manufacturable medical products.

At iota Biosciences you will be given the opportunity to substantially influence the design and success of Class III medical devices. This opportunity is unique to early-stage startups. Join our team and participate in delivering new effective therapeutic options to patients with hard-to-treat conditions.

Lead Analog/Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuit and System Engineer

iota Biosciences, Inc., a Berkeley-based medical device start-up developing novel bioelectronic diagnostics and therapies, is looking to hire a highly motivated engineer to design cutting edge integrated circuits and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team designing, validating, and taping out complex integrated systems for implantable medical devices
  • Collaborate with other IC designers and with mechanical, industrial, and systems engineers to design a system meeting the needs of all stakeholders
  • Shape and direct the short- and long-term ASIC development at Iota Biosciences, including contributing to building a team
  • Top-to-bottom circuit design, from architectural decisions down to transistor-level design with an emphasis on creating components as part of a larger system
  • Write specifications for analog and digital portions of integrated circuits
  • Behavioral modeling to model and validate architectures and circuit blocks
  • Transistor-level design of blocks including AC-DC converters, DC-DC converters, analog front-ends, analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, references and bias circuits, LDOs, etc.
  • Run simulations to validate design and integration
  • Define bench-top test plans and verify circuit performance
  • Testing and debugging chips after they return from fabrication

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: PhD or MSEE with 2+ years in related area of expertise
  • Familiarity with Cadence or Mentor Graphics tools for analog design and simulation
  • Familiarity with band-gap references, bias circuits, amplifiers, switched-capacitor circuits, LDOs, feedback and compensation techniques
  • Experience in system design and simulation using C / MATLAB / Verilog-AMS
  • Experience with mixed-signal design and verification
  • Significant familiarity with low-power designs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of energy harvesting communication devices, like RFID
  • Familiarity with low-power AC-DC and DC-DC on-chip power conversion
  • Experience with low bandwidth sensor interface design
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, FPGAs, microcontrollers, signal generations, and other test equipment for validation and testing of analog and mixed-signal designs
  • Experience designing biomedical electronics
  • Familiarity with CentOS7/RHEL 7 Linux
