Associate Professor (tenured/tenure-track) in Artificial Intelligence and Medical Imaging – Departments of Biomedical Engineering and Computer & Data Sciences

The Departments of Biomedical Engineering and Computer & Data Sciences in the Case School of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) invite applications for a mid-level faculty position in the area of artificial intelligence and medical imaging. Case Western Reserve University has a strong track record in developing and translating new technologies to benefit patients. The goal of this search is to identify an individual with a strong track record of productivity, federal funding and a national and international reputation in the field of artificial intelligence and medical imaging to further enhance CWRU’s excellence in translational precision medicine research. Faculty in this position will have the opportunity to build upon the existing CWRU strengths in related methodologies of computer aided diagnosis, imaging methodology, and multi-modal image fusion for treatment targeting, monitoring, and evaluation.

Representative research areas will include the development and application of new and innovative AI, deep learning and machine learning based approaches for diagnosis, prognosis and prediction of treatment response in the context of cancer, cardiovascular, kidney and eye disease. Opportunities exist for interdisciplinary, inter-institutional, and integrative research in the areas of oncology, surgery, radiology, cardiovascular disease, urology, ophthalmology, and radiation oncology. Candidates seeking this position at the Associate Professor level should have established a significant research reputation nationally, possess a record of national funding, and display a strong interest in translational and team science based research. The successful candidate will have a joint appointment in the Departments of Biomedical Engineering and Computer & Data Sciences. The Case School of Engineering offers an intellectually stimulating environment for students and postdocs to develop and apply image-computing solutions to highly translational and clinically relevant problems. Students and postdocs work closely with the clinical collaborators, including radiologists, pathologists, surgeons, and medical, and radiation oncologists. The CWRU campus is located in the heart of Cleveland, and is within a 10 minute walk or drive of 4 nationally and internationally renowned medical centers: University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth Medical Center and Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Develop a program focused on new machine learning and computational imaging tools with applications in precision medicine.
• Work closely on this initiative with faculty, staff and students in CSE, BME and the Center for Computational Imaging and Personalized Diagnostics and also clinical collaborators within the CWRU biomedical ecosystem,
• Lead and mentor post-doctoral trainees and graduate students.
• Support the Biomedical Engineering and Computer and Data Sciences departments in developing cross-functional projects.
• Develop and teach graduate level course on AI and precision medicine and health.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Candidates should have a doctorate degree in computer science, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or in a closely related field with post-doctoral research experience in areas relevant to AI in imaging.
• They should have an outstanding record of research achievements and the ability to contribute to the departmental educational mission.
• Physician scientists are strongly encouraged to apply.
