PhD Positions in Neuroscience

We are offering fully-funded PhD positions in the Schmidt lab at the Ernst Strüngmann Institute of Neuroscience in Frankfurt am Main.

The Lab

The lab is interested in mapping spatial navigation circuits, in particular the interplay of hippocampal neurons and cells in the medial entorhinal cortex. We use modern 3D electron-microscopic methods to untangle networks underlying spatial navigation from the fascinatingly complex brains of mice and shrews.

About You

If you are enthusiastic about neurons, the synaptic point-to-point connections they make and how they form networks that are able to compute complex tasks in the world of spatial navigation – get in touch! If you are interested in learning state of the art techniques for circuit reconstruction, high-throughput data analysis, and are excited about developing new methods – we’d love to hear from you!

Appointment & Starting date

Doctoral candidates (Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree holders, or equivalent) from any field (life sciences, physics, computer science, engineering, …) should include a CV and a short description of their particular motivation. Start time for the thesis is flexible but we anticipate a start in early 2021. This call will remain open until the positions are filled. Please contact Dr. Helene Schmidt to discuss questions at helene.schmidt@esi-frankfurt.de and see http://helenelab.org.
