31 Jan Administrative Officer – Research and Clinical Studies in Neuro-inflammatory Disease
Administrative Officer
Cardiff University – Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences, School of Medicine
A position is available for an Administrative Officer to provide comprehensive professional administrative support for research and clinical studies in neuro-inflammatory disease. The post holder will contribute to a project titled ‘Contemporary modelling of Multiple Sclerosis outcomes in a South Wales population’.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the leading cause of progressive neurological disability in young adults in the UK. However, wide variation exists in longer-term disability, and predicting outcome for an individual is difficult.
Comprehensive population data is essential to develop new individualised models of outcomes for people with MS. The South Wales MS Database contains comprehensive detail on long-term clinical outcomes for a UK cohort, but lacks important associated MRI data. In this project we will enhance the existing database by adding data on MRI scans for ~2000 people, and use it to develop unique contemporary models of MS outcome. This will provide an unrivalled resource, which will lead to a full-scale application for funding with pharmaceutical industry partnership, to validate the utility of novel prognostic biomarkers and cost-effectiveness of new medicines.
The successful candidate will be involved in contributing to data analysis and coordination of this and other similar projects. The post holder will have NVQ 3/A-Levels or equivalent. They will also have experience of working in an administrative role, knowledge of research or clinical trials and the ability to set up standard office systems and procedures and make improvements as appropriate. The post holder will be able to solve problems, communicate specialist and complex information effectively, and have a proven ability to advise and influence stakeholders.
The successful applicant will be based in the Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences, working with the MS research team, led by Professor Neil Robertson and Dr Emma Tallantyre.
For further details, please contact Dr Emma Tallantyre (TallantreEC@cardiff.ac.uk).
This post is available from 1st February 2021, full time (35 hours per week) and is fixed term until 15th October 2021.
