Summary of Position

We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to join the Product Development team at NovaSignal Corp. Your role will be to define and design electronics platforms for new, miniaturized ultrasound technologies used in novel medical devices. You will develop embedded electronics for next generation robotic ultrasound systems and work with a cross-functional team to prototype, test, and validate a product suited for a commercial market.

The ideal candidate will be an expert in ultrasound/RF electronics with extensive experience in embedded design, signal integrity and high-density board layout.

Essential Functions

  • Lead the electronics design and development of an integrated, miniaturized robotic ultrasound platform.
  • Collaborate in the design of analog front-end circuitry for ultrasound systems.
  • Define sub-system requirements, architectures and technical specifications for ultrasound and robotic sub-systems.
  • Perform risk analysis and design failure mode and effects analyses for electronic sub-systems.
  • Participate in feasibility and research projects to identify concepts for future product development projects consistent with the product roadmap.
  • Support continuous improvement by addressing customer needs of commercial products.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to a cross-functional team of engineers.

 

Requirements

  • Minimum of BS in Electrical Engineering (MS preferred)
  • Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in electrical engineering with a focus in embedded systems and high-speed digital design.
  • Experience designing and bringing-up systems using DSP/CPUs running 1 GHz+.
  • Experience designing and testing HDL for Altera/Intel/Xilinx FPGAs and System-on-Chips.
  • Experience designing and debugging USB 2.0 and 3.0 hardware interfaces.
  • Experience collaborating with firmware and signal processing engineers to achieve real-time hard deadlines.
  • Strong skills with electronics CAD tools, Altium desired.
  • Understanding of the practical application of electrical engineering and design controls in medical device product development.
  • Must be self-motivated, solution driven, and able to work independently.
  • Must be an excellent communicator with a collaborative mindset and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a creative and an innovative thinker.
