Our team is developing new human-computer interaction technologies for AR and VR, and we are looking for a skilled and motivated Technical Program Manager to own and direct the strategy of our user research and data collection programs. We are specifically looking for a candidate who has experience working with research scientists or novel product developers to identify data sets needed, developing strategies to collect that data, and validating the results against expectations.
This role will involve building strong relationships with program leads, setting high standards for the results of the executed studies (and validating the results against those standards), working with researchers to develop a study and data collection strategy that supports their work, and overall ensuring that our research teams have what they need to reach their ambitious goals. They will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.
Technical Program Manager – AI Research Data Responsibilities
- Build and own a strategic roadmap for user research and data collection across the team, and work with individual program leads to translate it into actionable schedules.
- Identify, escalate, and resolve issues or miscommunications, and develop communication channels among partner teams to avoid them.
- Work with cross-functional partners including hardware engineering, research science, operations, and software engineering to identify gaps and missing capabilities, and work with program leads to fill them.
- Proactively identify technical, legal, and logistical challenges and develop solutions to resolve issues and mitigate risks.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in the field of Computer Science, Perceptual Science, Human-computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 4+ years of experience managing complex research or data collection programs, especially in human subjects or human factors research.
- 2+ years work experience managing technical programs as the primary driver, especially in research, hardware development, or consumer electronics.
- Experience working with partner teams including legal and data privacy to develop processes and standards to ensure program compliance with legal, ethical, and safety requirements.
- Proven track record of successful relationship management and communication skills, especially in driving strategic cross-functional alignment between strategy and execution with team leaders and stakeholders, and successfully driving change at the org and cross-org level.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing artificial intelligence and/or machine learning development programs, especially on-device Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning development.
- Experience working in a research environment or on novel hardware development.
- Graduate degree in the field of Perceptual Science, Human-computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, or related field.
- Familiarity with one or more of the following domains: bio-sensing, electromyography (EMG), neuroscience, HCI, wearable technologies.
