Job Summary:

The Vision Group is looking for an enthusiastic vision scientist to support the development of cutting-edge imaging and display solutions and technologies for future Apple products.

This position is focused on the development, prototyping, and seamless execution of technologies to enable the best front-of-screen user experience of Apple products including iPhone, iPad, Watch, Mac and more. The team features a highly collaborative and hands- on environment that fosters scientific and engineering excellence, creativity, and innovation in the interdisciplinary areas of vision science, image processing, color science, neuroscience, and optics.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply vision science to design and evaluation of advanced displays, technologies, and interfaces Develop models of early vision to support design of quality metrics
  • Develop advanced display quality metrics to enable optimal product design
  • Review archival vision science data to answer fundamental image quality questions
  • Design and conduct efficient, robust user studies of human vision and image quality Guide feature and spec definition for future products based on image quality metrics Develop new products, features, and technologies based on vision science

 

Key Qualifications

  • Deep and broad knowledge of human vision
  • Strong background in mathematical/computational modeling of vision Experience in design, conduct, and analysis of human perception experiments
  • Knowledge of linear systems theory, Fourier analysis, and digital filtering
  • Proficiency in Mathematica, MATLAB or similar simulation and modeling tools
  • Basic understanding of digital imaging and display software and hardware
  • Strong analytical & critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Understanding of human visual optics and their relation to visual experience
  • Engineering background in digital image processing, color processing Familiarity with optometric methods, procedures and practice
  • Experience with Psychophysics Toolbox, PsychoPy, QUEST+, or similar tools Experience with eye-tracking technology
  • Experience in developing apps for iOS

 

Education

  • Ph.D. in Vision Science, Psychology, Imaging, Color, Computer Science, Optometry or Optics.
