PhD – Virtual/Augmented/Mixed Reality

 

Ph.D. in Extended Reality at iXR at NJIT

 

Applications are invited from candidates interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in Informatics doing Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality (VR, AR, and MR) research at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).

The students will be supervised by Dr. Margarita Vinnikov (margaritavinnikov.com) and will be part of the MultidisciplinaryInteraction, Machine Intelligence, and XR Research (MIXR) Lab.

 

Topics of interest would include the design, development, and evaluation of novel: multi-model (visual, audio, and haptic) user experiences such as gaze-contingent displays for gaming and social interaction applications; Multi-user interaction for augmented reality applications for STEM education; New techniques for improving navigation and interaction in VR for data-intensive applications.

  • The candidate should have excellent programming skills in C/C++ and C#.
  • Knowledge of quantitative analysis methods and body and eye-tracking techniques is a plus.
  • Prior research experience (with publications) is desirable, and so are prototyping and 3D modeling abilities.

Each candidate will be fully funded for at least four years ($30,000/year), have conference travel support, and receive a tuition waiver. This sums up to $220,000+ in total funding for each Informatics Ph.D. student.
