PhD – Multilocus Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (MTMS) Applied to the Human Brain

PhD position

Project “ConnectToBrain”
Project leader: Prof. Ulf Ziemann

The Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research (HIH), together with the University of Tübingen’s Neurology Hospital, forms the Center of Neurology. It is dedicated to research, treatment, and teaching focused on the diseases of the human brain.

The HIH department “Neurology with Neurovascular Medicine and Neuro-Oncology” headed by Prof. Ulf Ziemann is currently looking for a

PhD student

Project summary

The project will develop multilocus transcranial magnetic stimulation (mTMS) applied to the human brain in a brain-state-dependent approach by utilizing real-time high-density electroencephalographic (hdEEG) information about ongoing brain excitability and connectivity. The translational aim of the project is to improve therapeutic efficacy of TMS treatment of brain network disorders. The project is a consortium with other principle investigators in Finland and Italy, funded by a European Research Council Synergy Grant. This offers broad international exchange for the PhD candidates. The experiments at Tübingen University focus on testing the new hdEEG-mTMS technique in healthy subjects, under pharmacological challenge, and in patients with motor stroke and Alzheimer disease.
