The Research and Early Clinical Development Imaging group at Biogen is actively engaged in an innovative and dynamic imaging research program which includes the discovery and characterization of tools and methods across imaging modalities supporting decision-making in Biogen’s early phase clinical trials. We are seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented, imaging scientist to join our group of clinical imaging scientist as Principle Scientist/Sr Scientist. Title and level to be determined, commensurate with experience.
Job Description:
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in translating late preclinical methods into first in human trials with radiotracers and/or radiolabeled drugs. In particular, experience with the qualification of existing tools for novel applications. Expertise in designing/planning and execution of Phase-0 through Phase-1 imaging studies within the neurology and neuropsychiatric therapeutic areas is required for this position. Further, the candidate’s depth of imaging expertise across imaging modalities together with their industrial experience facilitates the application of technical, operational, and business knowledge to drive translational imaging strategy for early phase portfolio assets. A good understanding of drug development in Neurosciences and the questions pertinent to early clinical development of drug candidates is expected.
An essential component of the job is to interact effectively and efficiently within the cross-functional environment at Biogen. It is paramount that the candidate can deliver clear, concise communication of technically complicated material that is easily understood, persuasive and actionable to cross-functional teams, internal governance bodies and external stakeholders. Thus, the candidate must possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills, while also holding a proficiency in scientific writing. The scientific communication skills should be evidenced by a strong publication record and deep experience of presenting in academic, industrial and regulatory settings as well as at national and international conferences.
Qualifications:
Education: PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Neuropsychology or related fields.
- PhD with 8 years or greater imaging experience in translational medicine, early development and/or biomarker studies.
- Knowledge of early clinical imaging study design (Phase 0, 1) is essential.
- Experience in working with novel PET tracers in human studies is critical.
- Background knowledge of the common image analysis methods: FreeSurfer, SPM, AFNI, or FSL. Familiarity with scientific computing/programming via python, octave, C/C++, R or related languages.
- Vendor management experience is required; working with external imaging vendors, contract research organizations and academic centers.
- Previous experience working on pre-competitive consortia for large-scale imaging initiatives would be advantageous
