Your Mission:

neuraltrain is a Berlin-based digital health startup working on a new digital health treatment for depression called Optimood. We aim to offer a new type of treatment for depression. By using some of the latest findings in neuroscience, psychology, and AI, we aim to treat the dysfunctional circuits in the brain that give rise to and maintain the depressed state. We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated researcher with expertise in inducing, entraining, and analyzing the influences of neural oscillations on cognitive and sensory processing in typical and clinical populations. You will lead the research work that will help us further develop and refine our approach involving neural oscillations and their effect on neurophysiological circuits in clinical disorders such as depression. In this role, your responsibility will be to design, analyze and interpret the results from experimental studies in collaboration with our interdisciplinary team. These studies use EEG, physiological and behavioral methods to investigate fundamental research questions with an emphasis on transitioning our findings into a scientifically validated and effective treatment. As a startup straddling the line between academia and industry, this represents an ideal middle-ground both for talented academic researchers looking to see their ideas translate into real-world products and for industry experts looking to engage more with academic partners and basic research.

What you will do:

• Lead and take ownership of our neural oscillation-focused research areas and guide the development of this approach alongside the rest of the scientific, clinical and product teams.
• Design, setup, conduct and analyze both behavioral and EEG experiments alongside the science team.
• Contrast different methodological and theoretical approaches based on literature reviews to inform our neurophysiological and medical rationale.
• Liaise with our scientific and clinical advisers and help establish collaborations with academic and non-academic partners.

Your Profile:

• A PhD in Neural Engineering, Neuroscience, Psychology, or a similar computational subject involving advanced data analysis of neural oscillations and programming.
• Expertise of the scientific literature on inducing neural oscillations, neural entrainment, SSVEP, brain-computer interfaces, or similar.
• Strong and proven programming skills in MATLAB, python, R, or equivalents, enabling you to design and code experiments, and to analyze EEG data using signal processing and other advanced methods (single-trial, phase).
• Experience in conducting experiments with EEG, physiological and behavioral methods.
• Strong communication skills in English, spoken and written.
• An enthusiasm for developing scientific experiments into real-world products that help people in need.
