Assistant Professor – Behavioural Neuroscience

Job Summary

The Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Behavioural Neuroscience.

The members of the behavioural neuroscience group in the Department of Psychology currently address a range of research questions in the fields of memory, emotion, social behavior and their related disorders across all levels of analyses (e.g., molecular, systems neuroscience, psychopharmacology). In addition, the university-wide Collaborative Program in Neuroscience presents a large community of collaborators across several faculties, departments and several nearby hospitals. The Department seeks an emerging scholar with an exceptional record of research excellence related to the fundamental neurobiological mechanisms relevant to behavior, complementing existing strengths of the Department. Areas of interest could range from molecular and genetic to neurophysiological levels of analysis, with an emphasis on monitoring and/or manipulating molecular, neurochemical, or neurophysiological processes in behaving rodents. The successful candidate will combine a strong grounding in theory with advanced experimental and analyses approaches. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active, externally-funded program of research by taking advantage of the ample opportunities for collaboration and be committed to both undergraduate and graduate education. Evidence of excellence in research and teaching is necessary, as demonstrated through teaching evaluations, letters of reference and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application.

  • Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Psychology or a related field and have a minimum of one year of post-doctoral training.
  • We invite applications from outstanding scholars in all areas of behavioural neuroscience but priority will be given to candidates whose areas of expertise will connect well with those of current faculty members in the Department.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. We invite all qualified candidates. Applicants should submit a complete and current curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests and career goals, copies of representative publications and a teaching statement.
