As the Lead Mechanical Engineer in the Implant department, you’ll take over leadership of the implant mechanical engineering team. This team is responsible for the design, build, and test of the mechanical systems for our implant, charger, and accessories, as well as test infrastructure to reduce hardware development and manufacturing time. This is an exciting time to join as we are in the process of both taking our initial implant product into production and expanding efforts towards the next-generation products!

As the lead of this team, you’ll be responsible for setting priorities and managing the team, but will also be expected to make significant technical contributions. This is not a purely managerial role – you will both lead and contribute technically to the team!

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering expertise in the design, development, and test of implant products and their components
  • Manage and mentor mechanical engineers
  • Scope development projects and determine resource needs
  • Drive product requirements, analysis, prototyping, debugging, documentation, product management, manufacturing, and test
  • Work closely with a diverse group of talented engineers spanning chip design, microfabrication, electronics, firmware, and materials in the Implant department, as well as robotics, neurosurgery, and animal care
  • Consistently innovate to improve reliability and capabilities while minimizing cost and schedule

 

Key qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience with full time direct reports
  • 4+ years of experience in engineering design, manufacturing, and technical project management
  • You have worked on a product that shipped in volume, or is imminently shipping

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • CAD wizard
  • Good project management and organization skills
  • Experience with conventional machining and precision design and manufacturing
  • Experience with high-volume manufacturing
  • Proficiency with Python, C/C++, or similar
