PostDoc – Circuit Dysfunctions in Rodent Models of Psychiatric Disorders

Post-doctoral position in Geneva/Switzerland

Position: Post-doctoral Position
Deadline: 4 October 2021
City: Geneva
Country: Switzerland
Institution: University of Geneva

Description:

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position to study circuit dysfunctions in rodent models of psychiatric disorders.

The Carleton and Rodriguez laboratories (Http://rodriguez-carleton-labs.unige.ch) are looking for highly motivated postdoctoral researchers who are interested in joining us at the University of Geneva (Switzerland). Our laboratories consist of an international team of researchers having complementary technical expertise, which ranges from mouse genetics to transcriptomics, neurophysiology and behavior.

In the context of an ERC Synergy grant, our current work focuses on understanding the role played by the claustrum – a poorly understood brain structure – in cognitive processes. We are in particular interested in unraveling the architecture and functional logic of this neuronal circuit, and in evaluating its potential dysfunction in mental diseases characterized by cognitive deficits, such as schizophrenia and autism. The proposed project will fit these goals and will involve the use of optogenetics/pharmacogenetics in combination with behavior, tetrode recordings and/or functional imaging (microendoscopic calcium imaging, two-photon microscopy…).

  • The ideal candidate has a PhD in neuroscience and a strong experience in large-scale multiunit recordings or calcium imaging (2-photon microscopy, microendoscopic imaging…).
  • Strong Experience in programming (e.g. Matlab) and data analysis is mandatory.

Applications should be sent electronically to Pr. Alan Carleton (alan.carleton@unige.ch) and include a detailed CV, a brief statement of research experience and interests as well as names of at least two references.

Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
