Post-Doc Position on Mechanisms of Spinal Cord Stimulation

This is a full-time post doc position within the framework of the SPARC program of NIH. The candidate will work closely with an interdisciplinary team of neural engineers, neurosurgeons, neurologists, computer scientists, and electrical engineers. With the supervision and support from the faculty investigators, the candidate is will be encouraged to develop independent research projects/expertise, grant writing skills, high-impact paper writing skills and develop fellowship grant proposals.

The candidate will focus his/her work on advanced computer modelling of the spinal cord to support the design of technology for the restoration of autonomic and voluntary neurological functions in people with SCI. We expect the development of a hybrid computational/experimental approach to validate scientific hypothesis and test efficacy in animal models and human studies. There will be opportunities to closely interact with multiple faculty investigators from clinical, engineering, and basic science departments across both the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University campuses.

The candidate should possess a background in Neural Engineering, Neuroscience, or Biomedical Engineering. Candidate should have skills in at least some of these areas:

• Computer Modelling is a plus
• Computer models of neural circuits/stimulation
• Machine Learning
• Electrophysiology
• Animal Experiments in Bladder Control
• Animal Experiments in brain, spinal or peripheral nerve stimulation and recordings
• Proficient in coding
