The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 450 employees and a revenue 2019 of 497 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Aging Research Center (ARC), a division within NVS, is located at KI Campus Solna, Stockholm. It is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, geriatrics), psychology (e.g., cognition, structural, functional, and molecular brain imaging), and social gerontology (e.g., sociology, public health, social epidemiology, social work). The center has around 75 employees, it has a strong focus on research with unique research resources, such as large-scale longitudinal studies and nationwide registries.

Your mission

The postdoc researcher will conduct work on structural brain imaging data acquired within the longitudinal population studies of older adults included in the National E-Infrastructure on Aging Research (NEAR). The postdoc researcher will spend her or his time at KI and Umeå Center for Functional Brain Imaging (UFBI) at Umeå University. The postdoc researcher will mainly be working with NEAR data harmonization for brain-imaging variables related to the project. The goal is to develop and evaluate a metric that captures global brain integrity. The metric should be possible to use regardless of the specific scanner hardware or scanning sequence. The postdoc researcher will be responsible for project planning, data preparation (together with database managers within NEAR), and data analysis. The projects will assess the developed metric in relation to cohort changes in brain integrity and longitudinal cognitive change. Additional specific aims can be developed.
