Senior data scientist (Venice, CA)

AE Studio is a product development studio located in Venice, California with clients that range from early stage startups to Fortune 10 companies. Our focus is on products that improve human agency. Our long-term vision includes building an operating system for BCI that maximizes human agency. We have a nascent division that is internally focused on this, and all team members at AE potentially have the opportunity to contribute to its efforts.

About the role

You’ll be joining our fast-growing consulting firm. You will be responsible for leading data science projects, mentoring other team members, tackling product problems and setting data science strategy for our clients. You will work closely with other data scientists, full-stack developers, and product designers and managers as well as interact directly with clients, in an Agile environment.

About you

• PhD in math, physical sciences, or computer science
• 3+ years in industry as a data scientist
• You have a strong command of fluent/business English speaking and writing skills.
• Familiar with the most widely used tools and techniques in data science and machine learning
• Strong ability to code in Python and leverage its data science / machine learning ecosystem
• Strong understanding of probability and statistics
• Excited about working in a variety of domains
• Able to take an ill-defined problem and do what is needed (ask questions, research, think about it) to make the problem well-defined
• Able and willing to pick up new domain and get up to speed in a relatively short period of time
• Excited to solve (or at least come up with good approaches to solving) problems that haven’t been solved before
• Growth mindset
• Full-time availability
• Demonstrated ability to work independently/autonomously

Bonus points for

• Software engineering experience (strong nice-to-have)
• Wide variety of knowledge and experience across multiple domains
• Good business sense – able to think of effective solutions for clients in the context of solving business problems, able to step back from the problem at hand and look at the bigger picture
• Production experience – understanding what it takes to put and have models in production
• Project management experience

Responsibilities

• Help manage other data scientists, data science projects
• Be a sounding board for other data scientists on their projects
• Work as an individual contributor as needed
